Why Should You Use PNG File Format in Your Web Design?
The benefits of using PNG image format in website designing over the different file types ;for instance, GIF and JPEG; the file type works well if you need to make really amazing and spectacular images that will prove alluring to your customersThe PNG image format was introduced some time ago; it was brought out for consumers in 1995/96 to make up for the shortcomings of the popular GIF file type. However, it failed to create ripples because the the browsers of the time were not designed to support the advanced features of PNG so website designers and creators were compelled to incorporate it restrictedly. One of the major hindrances standing in the way was Microsoft Internet Explorer which was the most well known and widely used browsers of the time; IE had limited place for PNG support which equated to the fact that the format could only be incorporated in limited capacity. However, matters went through a change after the availability of IE7; this new offering from Microsoft has aided in increasing the usability of PNGs. So here is why at three reasons why PNG is by far the best image formats around today:
It is possible to create images that can be superimposed due to their transparency or a feature called alpha transparency: When you analyze the features of GIF and PNG, it will become apparent that a very distinct advantage with PNG is that you will only be able to save a specific color transparently through the use of GIF which means that the color can be used regardless of it being opaque or transparent with nothing in betweenbut when you use PNG, you get a serious feature over GIF; because the format is capable of producing semi transparent pixels. This feature gives you the ability to save a PNG file with a soft drop shadow and then fuse it with a background that suits your taste. You can also use the image as a watermark or a gradient background. The file type allows for the slow fading of colors from completely opaque to see through, and hence you will be able to view the webpage below
They look fabulous: Not only do you get surprising flexibility when using PNG images but also; there are several other advantages to incorporating this format. For instance, if you choose a JPG image, you lose some of the information from the original file each time the file is saved, so eventually, you will notice a conspicuous decline in the finesse of the media. Even if, this issue has been resolved in the image format and you can save the images without sacrificing any data, GIF only allows for a limited 256 color palette, which renders it quite futile if you want to store a photograph. However, when you use PNG, you could get the perfect features of both these formats; you get a full color display similar to JPEG format and it also supports managed color palette a la GIF files. Another advantage is that the storage of the image is lossless so the picture stays as it is despite innumerable times of saving the file.
PNG allows for self optimization: One of the hurdles that web programmers face very often is the fact that the brightness and the contrast ratio of the screen has to be regulated to see the pictures properly; this happens due to various Gamma setting used in monitors from different vendors. Gamma setting is a technology used to scatter the the light across the monitor display. However, various operating systems use distinct Gamma settings. Therefore, an image that is color corrected specifically for Windows may not look right on a Mac. Again, in this scenario the innovative PNG image type comes to the rescue, in PNG, you can save the images with an inherent Gamma correction feature so despite the differences in operating systems; the Gamma settings will be changed on its own to show a file with the perfect brightness and contrast.
