Why Do You Need to Use PNG File Format in Your Web Design?
The pros of including PNG file format in website creation over the different file types like GIF and JPEG; the file type works well if you need to make really amazing and spectacular images that will prove alluring to your customersThe PNG image format was introduced a few years back; it was brought out in the market in 1995/96 to meet the deficiencies of the the common GIF image format. However, it did not catch on because the the browsers of the time were unable to support the state of the art features of PNG so website designers and creators had to use it stingily. One of the major hindrances faced by the format was Microsoft Internet Explorer which was one of the most popular browsers of the time; IE had little or no provision for PNG support consequently the format could only be used to a bare minimum. Then, the scene changed after the availability of IE7; this latest product from Microsoft has proved immensely useful in increasing increasing the popularity of PNGs. So here is a look at three reasons why PNG is one of the best image formats to be introduced so far:
You can get images that can be superimposed due to their transparency or a property known as alpha transparency: When you analyze the features of GIF and PNG, it will become apparent that one of the major differences is that you can only save a particular color in a transparent format through GIF this equates to the fact that the color can be used whether opaque or transparent with just transparency in betweenbut when you use PNG, you get a distinct feature over GIF; because the format is capable of producing semi transparent pixels. This simply means that you can save a PNG picture with a soft drop shadow and then float it against any background. The Image can also be used as a gradient background or water mark. The image file type gives you the option to use the gradual fading of shades from fully opaque to transparent, exposing the webpage underneath
They look fantastic: It is a well known fact that PNG images give you extreme flexibility also; there are several other advantages to incorporating this format. For example, if you make use of the JPG Format, you lose a part of the details from the original file each time you save the file, so eventually, you will be able to see a noticeable deterioration in the quality of the pictures. Even if, this problem has now been sorted in GIF and you can save the files without losing any information, GIF only allows for a limited 256 color palette, which makes it quite useless if you have to store a picture. However, with PNG, you will get the most desired features of the image formats; you will be provided an extensive color display like with JPEG images and it also provides managed color palette like GIF files. Another advantage is that the compression of the file is sans loss so the photograph does not change despite innumerable times of saving the file.
Self Optimization is possible in PNG: One of the hurdles that web programmers have to tackle on a daily basis is the fact that the brightness and the contrast ratio of the screen has to be adjusted to see the pictures appropriately; this problem occurs due to the Gamma settings of different monitors. Gamma is a technology incorporated to scatter the brightness across the display surface. However, diverse operating systems use a variety of Gamma settings. Therefore, a picture that is color corrected to suit Windows will seem wrong when seen on Mac. Again, in this case the versatile PNG format can prove useful, in PNG, you can save the images with an inherent Gamma correction feature so despite the differences in operating systems; the Gamma settings will be changed on its own to display a picture with the perfect ratios of contrast as well as brightness.
