Why Should You Use PNG File Format in Your Web Design?
The benefits of incorporating PNG file format in website designing over the different image formats ;for instance, GIF and JPEG; the file format can be used to make better and spectacular images that will wow your consumersThe PNG file type was introduced a few years back; it was put forth for consumers around 95/96 to meet the deficiencies of the the common GIF file type. However, it did not make an impression because the the browsers of the time were unable to support the advanced features of PNG so web designers and makers were forced to include it in their designs stingily. One of the primary hurdles standing in the way was Microsoft's flagship product, Internet Explorer which was by far the most famous browsers of that period; IE had little or no provision for PNG support which meant that the format could only be made use of in limited capacity. But, the scene metamorphosed with the introduction of IE7; this new product from Microsoft has proved immensely useful in increasing increasing the popularity of PNGs. So lets take a look at three reasons why PNG is one of the most innovative image formats to be introduced so far:
You can get images that can be superimposed due to their transparency or a property known as alpha transparency: When you pitch GIF against PNG, it will become apparent that a very distinct advantage with PNG is that you you will be restricted to saving a particular color as transparent in GIF which means that you can get the color whether opaque or transparent with just transparency in between with the use of PNG, you get a serious feature over GIF; because the format is capable of producing semi transparent pixels. With this attribute, you can save a PNG picture with a soft drop shadow and then fuse it with a background that suits your taste. Through this feature you will be able to use an image as a gradient background or water mark. The file type allows for the gradual fading of shades from entirely opaque to absolutely transparent, and hence you will be able to view the webpage underneath
They look spectacular: Not only do you get surprising flexibility when using PNG images but also; there are numerous other benefits to using this format. For instance, if you make use of the JPG Format, you lose a portion of the data from the initial image whenever the file is saved, so after a while, you will be able to see a noticeable deterioration in the quality of the media. Even though, this issue has now been sorted in GIF and you can save the files without compromising any data, GIF only allows for a limited 256 color palette, which imparts it quite ineffective if you are going to save a photograph. PNG allows for self optimization: One of the hurdles that web programmers face very often is the anomaly due to which the contrast and brightness of the commuter screen has to be changed to see the images properly; this problem occurs due to the Gamma settings of different monitors. Gamma setting is a technology incorporated to distribute the brightness across the screen. However, different operating systems use a variety of Gamma settings. Hence, an image that is color corrected for Windows may appear abnormal in Mac. Once again, in this case the versatile PNG picture format can help you out, in PNG, you can store the images with a built in Gamma correction so whatever operating system you are working on; the Gamma settings will be automatically adjusted to show an image with the perfect ratios of contrast as well as brightness.
